Thoughts on Claude

Posted on August 6, 2025August 6, 2025 by Jim

1. I love using MCP server, but Claude sometimes forgets that it has access to it, so I now have two TextExpander expansions that I can execute at the start of my day, and also at regular breaks during my work day.

Somewhat ridiculously, I have to remind Claude what my local time is. I might be sitting down at 11am to formulate a plan for the rest of the day and it will give me a plan that starts at 9:30am. It should be smart enough to look at my local time. 1

2. Claude + Obsidian + Things 3 seems to be working well for me as a round-trip solution for the moment. Even though I am currently on the Claude Max plan, I can easily go beyond the limits of a context window during the course of a day. For that reason I periodically ask Claude to recap what we’ve done, and to update both my Daily Note and my todo list with completed tasks etc. It’s like an extra working memory for me.

I also like being able to round-trip across all my devices. If I need to use Claude on my laptop, desktop, iPad, iPhone etc, I can jump right back into what I was doing. The only caveat is that I can’t use the same MCP Server setup, or even at all, when on mobile. Also, on my Mac Mini desktop I have MCP server pointing to a different Notion instance that I use for Remote Resilience Hub. I wonder if there is a clever way of using Docker to switch between the two Notion instances as and when I need them.

3. Also, I think that there are too many pathways in to connecting other apps to Claude, and I’m not sure how they are all meant to work. Above I have my MCP Toolkit in Docker that’s linked to my Claude Desktop installations, but there’s also Connectors and Extensions(?) and I’m not sure how they’re meant to work. Are they desktop only? Or can I configure them to work no matter where I am (Desktop extensions notwithstanding).

The current connection landscape still feels somewhat fragmented/obfuscated.

  1. This reminds me one time when I was living in London and was Google Apps Reseller. I had logged a support request after having issues with a client’s installation. I received a call at 3am from a Google support agent in California, who was blissfully unaware of time differences outside of the US.
